Manaoag Pangasinan

Nuestra Señora del Santisimo de Manaoag

From Baguio, we rode a UV Express bound to Manaoag Pangasinan. The terminal is located near Burnham Park. It was an hour and 30 minutes ride from the City of Pines. Fare was 80 pesos.
Upon reaching the Manaoag terminal, you'll only need to cross the street to reach the Manaoag Church.
We're not aware that day that it was the feast day. We wanted to wait for the parade of the Manaoag Shrine but we have to catch up the last trip going back to Baguio.

HISTORY

The church of Our Lady of Manaoag was established 400 years ago. Ten years after which, The ivory image was brought to the Philippines by Padre Juan de San Jacinto from Spain via Acapulco. Folk tradition has it that the Blessed Mother mary Herself designated the place where the church would be built. The church and Our Lady passed through unnumbered historical events, and remain unmoved by them.

1605–administered by the Dominican Friars
1720 – inauguration of the new church made of stones
1832-1833 – four earthquakes weakened the church structures
1896 – when the winds of revolution were blowing, the image of Our Lady took shelter in Dagupan Church.
1898 – during the insurrection, insurgents ransacked the church including the silver throne of Our Lady and burned it down.
1909 – when the church was again fit to be home of the Blessed Mother, her image was brought home and enthroned in her own shrine.
1911-1920 – all major works on the church were completed except the belfry and the wings of the transepts
On September 1925, the Papal Rescript granting approval for the canonical coronation of Our Lady was received in Manaoag.
April 21, 1926 marked the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of Manaoag.
1937 – the sanctuary of Manaoag was awarded the Merit Recognition by the Philippine Historical Research and Markers Committee. World War II – for a time the church was closed. When fighting stopped, the church was opened once more.
Liberation Period – again the church suffered damages. A plane dropped 4 bombs, 3 landed on the patio and damaged the façade. One bomb fell through the roof but did not explode. After the war, the church was repaired. Pilgrims returned in even greater number.
1952 – work started on a new convent and belfry. In 1954 – the new convent and the belfry was inaugurated. Came 1960 – an elevated platform was built on the head nave, the altar was brought closer to the people. Since 1972, the Sanctuary-Church has been under the administration and care of Filipino Dominicans.
At present, Rev. Fr. Patricio A. Apa, OP serves as the Prior and Parish Priest at the same time ably being assisted by 10 Dominican priests.
The Shrine stands on the hilltop at the center Of the town proper of the Municipality of Manaoag In the Province of Pangasinan. The town shares a common boundary with Pozorrubio in the North; Urdaneta & Mapandan in the South; Binalonan in The East, and San Jacinto in the West.

A Hidden Paradise: "Paguriran Island"

It was only one night when me and my travel buddy Karl
decided to have a blast the day after our birthday. No celebration happened on our special day instead we went and explore a wonderful island situated in Bacon, Sorsogon City, Sorsogon.
We left our hometown and meet in Daraga having only my phone where I saved a page from the net for us to reach our destination.
I already read different blogs featuring the Paguriran Island and I was very interested about it. It has a white fine sand. What I like the most of the island is, it has a unique formation having a body of water at the center of it.

From Daraga, we went to the van terminal bound to Sorsogon City. At first, we chose to ride on a bus going to Sorsogon because fare will be cheaper if you choose to ride via bus. But we left the bus because the travel time will be longer. We cross the street and there was the terminal.
It was a 2hrs trip and I can say that it was a comfortable and relax journey because the road was fine. No humps, no traffic haha. Definitely, no traffic because you are in a province :D
The fare was 85 pesos. The van will drop you off at exactly on their terminal also near Save More. We went inside the supermarket to buy some food and we asked someone where was the jeepney terminal bound to Paguriran Island and luckily it was only near Save More. We rode on the jeep enroute to Bacon, Sorsogon  :)
From the city, we travelled for about 45 minutes to reach the island and fare was 24 pesos.

After a long trip, we were amazed of what we saw. We were very excited of exploring the island. It was a few walk from the main road to the resort where you have to stay and rent an open cottage for 100 pesos. No entrace fee was collected from us but only on the usage of the cottage.

It was low tide then when we arrived that's why we didn't have the chance to swim so we just explore the island and be mesmerized by its natural beauty.

View of the island from the shore.
He's my travel buddy. So gwapo isn't he? And I'm so haggard at the shot. Haha

Shot form one of the islets.

Fine white sand of the beach.

Ooops, the guy beside me is a good friend of ours working in Sorsogon. He just dropped by  because he was on his work haha. Ditching his duty just to saw the place :D

Body of water situated inside the island where you can swim.

Super duper clear water.

The Trio lol.

Mangrove trees to be preserved hopefully :)

Stone formations on the island.

High tide approaching :)

Kids playing on the fine sand.

A sweet couple who've waited for the high tide.

Unfortunately we didn't had the chance to enjoy to swim when the high tide appproached. Because we have to left and catch the last trip bound to the City proper and the last trip also bound to Daraga.
It was an unplanned journey but we loved unplanned scenarios haha.
Hoping to be back again on these wonderful creation of HIM and had our overnight to catch up the sunrise and sunset.

Visita Iglesia

I've been to some of the different churches in Albay all by myself hihi. Traveled for how many hours
starting from Daraga to Tabaco City.

My first stop was in Daraga church.
The church was situated on the upper portion of the town proper so you have to be patient in walking upstairs. There are two ways on how to went to the church. The first way was near on the other church named "Sto.Cristo". Many devotees were also going to that church especially on Friday. Ive been to that church also but sadly I wasn't able to took a picture huehue :(
And the other one was near on the public market of the town.

After a breath taking walk to reach the church (no wheels ugh!, here's the view that will surely ease your tiredness :)

Fascinating view of Mayon Volcano after a long walk.

The restaurant beside the church

My favorite shot. taken at Red Labuyo.
Facade of the church

This was the painting inside the church telling the story on how was the church was built MAYBE? Hahaha. I need more stars for my history.

After Daraga, I went to Sto. Domingo. From Daraga I rode a jeepney bound to Legazpi City
to catch the jeepney going to Sto. Domingo. Fare from  Daraga to Legazpi was Php10.
From Legazpi, I rode a jeep going to Sto. Domingo for a fare of Php20.
Just tell the driver to drop you off at the church.

Sto. Domingo Church.

I wasn't able to went inside the church coz it was close so I didn't saw the interior of the church hay :(

I just sat on the plaza for awhile located in front of the church
thinking if I have to continue my journey going to Tabaco.
I asked a kind not-so-old lady about the fare going to Tabaco City- the City of Love.
She never failed me and told me about the fare. It was Php15  from Sto. Domingo to Tabaco City.

Bell tower of the church.

Facade of the church.

I don't know what it is called haha. I just captured it though :D

I enjoyed these half day journey of mine with mu limited fund.
I only have Php150 on my pocket and fortunately i funded it intelligently. Booom boom boom!
